- my name's Dave, I was born in April '75, and I live in a small village
near Manchester in the UK. About 6 years ago, I noticed that a small
blemish had developed on my right side abdomen. Being a bit younger I
left it, and forgot about it ... but after a few months I noticed that
another had developed on the left of my abdomen. So I made an appointment to see my
doctor, who was unsure, so performed a biopsy (a pretty bad one at that
!!), but this returned no findings. So I was referred to the local
specialist.
During the 3 month wait to see this specialist, I developed more of the dark patches, upper right & left chest in multiple places, under both my arms by my armpits, left and right forearms, and more around my abdomen. So I began to get a a bit worried, and also very conscious of letting people see my body. When the time finally came to see the specialist, it took him 30 seconds to decide what it was and said "Oh .. it's only Morphea ..". I went away knowing it was a skin discolouration, and that's all. As the years went on, the patches have deepened in colour, and some have grown and some shrunk, but none have gone.So about 8 months ago, I decided to look to see if the internet could provide me with a detailed explanation of what 'Morphea' was as the doctors failed to ... and Oh boy did I find it !!! I found pretty much what all of the people I've read about here found, not only in written format, but also the fear and worry that we all had when finding out it can kill.In the last 6 months or so, I have started getting dull aches from my right side chest, like a pulled muscle feeling, but it comes and goes as it likes .. sometimes lasting 5 minutes .. sometimes 3 hours or so .. and have started to become worried that this has something to do with 'Morphea'. It sometimes becomes very uncomfortable and means I can't sleep or work. Has anyone else had similar symptoms ??This prompted me to make another appointment with another specialist as I have lists of questions I want to ask them know I know more about it. Have I got Morphea', has it spread internally .......... But again ... I have to wait until mid December '99 to have my first visit .. some six months after making an appointment.I have always been a very active and fit
person, spending most of my youth playing any and every sport under the
sun ! These days, I enjoy Windsurfing, swimming, running and Gym, as
most of my spare time is spent playing the drums in a few bands. http://members.aol.com/BeaverMusic My family are all quite worried about my condition, and often refer to it as 'The Lurgee !!'. I guess the only way to not worry about the future is to try and put it to the back of your mind, and get on and enjoy what you can ...
